Category: Dungeons/Raids

We’ve now killed Majordomo (wooo, 6/7!) and apparently they’ve found my blog. Now I can’t be snarky. If I ever wanted to be. ….AHHHHHH THEY’RE WATCHING MEEEEEEE.

So, on Baleroc, what really really annoyed me is the crystals. Because I’d HoT up the person on them, swiftmend and healing touch and nourish and regrowth would all be used… and nock(a paladin healer) and chain(a shaman healer) would be at 60 stacks while I’d be at 20-30.

….This made me a Sad Panda™(not actually trademarked).

So on the next pull, I tried using more regrowth and less other things, like.. er… HoTs and .. slow direct heals. I started sitting at around 40 while everyone else would have 80. Ffffffffffffffffffffffffff. I mean, we killed him. And that’s good. But… I feel like I wasn’t being the best healer I could be there. I guess next time we kill him I’ll have to try even more direct healing without HoTs… but then I’m afraid the people on crystals will die.

However, I also recently turned into a boomchicken, and on a night I had to go early they found out that Baleroc was two-healable (and in fact easier to heal like that) so I don’t have to worry about crystals anymore beyond staying away from them.

Having not much else to say about that, Alysrazor!

Before nerf:

We didn’t not have a good time of it. While we had successfully rotated her to phase 1 two times (with one healer down, not me!), we then all died. First, people stood in fire(given off lava worms), interrupts were failing to go off… the little bird adds weren’t dying.. heck, one attempt I just lagged and didn’t realize I was in fire. And then I died. And then the people I was responsible for healing died. And then we all died.

After nerf:

*poke Alys*

*she dies*

Seriously, we killed her when half of us (sadly including me when a lava worm popped up and I didn’t react fast enough) were dead. Alysrazor.. You are now designated loot piñata.

Hahahahahh *poke dead*

Actual what we did will come later. Also, this blog post just proves I will do ANYTHING but go through Wuthering Heights and annotate it.

Raid Mindset

So, on Sat night, we went in. After a ton of wipes in phase 1, and one in phase 2 (that was in between the phase 1 wipes) We killed Rhyloith. And to paraphrase our Raid Leader: “Why the f*** can’t you do this all the time?! I just saw you take Rhyloith down so smoothly Casually Addicted”, the top guild on our server,”would be jealous! And yet we’ve wiped to stupid s*** on other attempts. F*** switch are you all throwing to do stuff like this?” He’s constantly saying stuff like that. And, well, he has a point. We can go into Firelands, and for some reason on all the good attempts, everything goes smoothly. We’re communicating, we’re not standing in anything, we’re stacking or not stacking and getting everything down correctly and the dps range from 16-24k. I saw that on Shannox and Lord Rhy-Rhy, and, well, I agree with our raidleader.

We’re not in a raid mindset on the wipes. And when we are, we are quite capable of beating down anything we d*mn well want to with only a few attempts. I’m not sure why sometimes, the switch flips and we suddenly become, again steal words from Jjesse’s mouth, Paragon, or any top guild.  I wish I knew how to make sure that in Firelands, it was always switched. It’s quite frustrating to wipe to Beth’tilac time after time– after we’ve seen her at 2% and if she just hadn’t eaten one spiderling, she’d be dead. We had to call it. WTF!?

So, I look at my healing. I look at who I’m healing, my overhealing, my HoT uptime, my activity, who died when. I’m proud to say that the part of the raid I heal is highly unlikely to die first. It happened once twice tonight, on a dozen or so wipes. One time, the spiderling killer was out of range, and one time I just didn’t get to the person fast enough, and I’m beating myself up about that. If they’d been alive, would we have had the kill? I try to make sure that I AM in raid mentality. That I AM doing everything I possibly can. That I’m bringing potions, cookies, flasks. Even though the guild provides feasts and cauldrons, we can run out of feasts. We all need to farm more. I try to use my warlock cookies, and I try to use tranquility every time I can use it and still have it when I need it. I’m certain there’s something I could do better. Maybe some reforging, I know that I’m not quite at a haste breakpoint and so I should either reforge to get to it or reforge to other stats until I can reach it. I give my innervate to other people. I still get 10% mana, and I have the luxury to potion of concentration, they don’t.

I know my raid group can kill the bosses when they’re in raid mentality. It really annoys me that sometimes, we’re not.

I know I did everything I could think of at the time, and it wasn’t enough to kill the boss. I know it’s not all on me. But f*** it, I feel like it is.

….After all, don’t you know it’s always the healer’s fault?

So have I mentioned that I recently got my wisdom teeth out? It hurts like a female dog, I’m on fricken’ heavy duty pain drugs (That aren’t doing a whole lot as far as I can tell), and I am still healllling.

We’re currently working on Lord Rhylioth and got him half of the way down on the first night, so life is good. What’s going on is that the steerers are getting the hang of it and we’re getting the hang of seeing everything on the ground and communication and all that.

Also, we downed Shannox for the second time. Got another eternal ember. Also, remember what I said about being on heavy-duty pain meds?

One wipe, not due to me but lag spikes.

Second time, perfect execution except for one crystal prison trap the RL, ironically enough, took.

And I did top healing and 2nd in overheals, which, well, doesn’t mean a whole lot since you know meters, but HAH. It’ll also help we check out how to mess around with my glyphs. And now I need to go take another dose of pain meds and pass out.

ALSO! If by some chance, you read this blog, you are on Gilneas, or want to go to Gilneas, and are on the Alliance..

We are currently interviewing a frost DK, but we need an arcane or fire mage, preferred arcane for the buffs. We are 1/7 and working on Rhylioth, we are semi-hardcore (which basically means show up on time, put raid face on, but we understand that when RL stuff happens, it happens), and we make jokes. It’d be nice if you can use ventrillo to communicate also, although if you have dental surgery, or strep throat, stuff like that, there is obviously and exception made. Go to make an account there and APPLY. Please I love you?

Good news, everyone! On Thursday the 11th, instead of going in BWD like we had planned due to a warlock being a bit late, although we knew that was going to happen. So, the RL polled for common consensus and  we went to farm Firelands Trash. And then when the ‘lock got on, we decided “hey, why not just keep on doing this and work on SHannox some more? We can always just do BWD sat or something.” We cleared enough trash that Shannox appeared (and got 3 epics and one epic pattern in the process, woot woot). After one wipe, during which our main tank our our tank’s healer’s computer (I’m not really clear on this) randomly decided to restart. Ooooops. WIPE.

But then… but then, on the next pull, we did it. Cleanly. The only person that died was the MT, literally 2 seconds before Shannox died. And we got an Eternal Ember, which, after much discussion, went to the warlock.

Our not-very-complicated strategy:

Kill Rageface.

-easy enough, just focus the dog

Take Shannox to 35% and then kill Riplimb.

-we postioned our Riplimb tank in such a way that the stacks would reset with just the dk slow.

Kill Shannox.

Druid Healing, Kind of

(I apologize for random spaces I might miss, I’m typing this on my IDevice and it will autocorrect to wrongness.)

Okay, so say the fight is Shannox, which I need to work on anyways considering that’s where our progression group is at or at least was at before my trip.

If someone is trapped in a crystal trap, you can do nothing to help them. Or at least, I don’t, as I know that I will need all my mana for healing. As we gear up that might change. They are out of your LoS, and you cannot help them. At all.

For immolation traps, first, call out on vent that someone got hit by one. They are COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE. You are making your healer waste mana healing and dispelling you if you are in one. *cough shann tank I’m looking at you cough especially when they add 40% more damage on you cough* After that, I’ll toss either a nourish or a rejuv on them. 80% or lower, rejuv, and check to make sure they don’t have rageface on them. Otherwise, nourish to around, oh, 95.

Rageface. I am always on raid heals so far, so I know how I respond to this.
If he’s face raging someone, they get rejuv+nourish spam and swiftmend if they drop low. Now if they get below 15-20%, you have a problem because no one is critting rageface for enough to get him off that person. At that point, I toss regrowth at them and pray that someone crits, or spam healing touch if they are a VIP. (You need 150 healer points to become a VIP… Or be a healer tank or dps pulling required dps.). And of course, he will focus people, at point you need to just heal them. I use nourish and rejuvenations for that, if they’re a clothie I might mix in some healing touches.

When Shannox tosses his spear, there’s the initial AoE damage, which is nit avoidable. If possible, I like getting people to temporarily stack up so that healing rains and effloresences can get heal everyone up. Of course, there is the trap problem, but if they just go into dbm and say to announce it everyone will yell out if there’s a trap on them. And then you can move, no?

I save tranquillity for phase three, although I do pop it in phase 1 at the beginning just to help with mana and so it will be back up. In phase three, stacking makes my life much easier but it is not always manageable. Rejuv and swiftmend, along with wild growth, allow for pretty nice raid heals, which is a big necessity in phase three due to the major raid damage. At that point I just pray everyone stays alive while healing my little heart out.

….. I realize that’s not really my priority system, but gosh darn it, it changes every fight and with every new patch, with gear, enchants, flasks, potions, team makeup(a red lipstick with pink blush is to be most heartily avoided, just like a team made up of only paladins and death knights)

Druid Healing

So, recently I was asked how on earth I manage healing. My answer was to go

Me: “uhhh… I don’t know?”

Person: “….”

Me: “I flail at buttons and they become magically healed, maybe?”

Person: “….Maybe you’re just a good healer?”

Me: *various panic*

And then I realized that on tanks, yes, I do know what I do. Raid heals? Uhm, no.

Tanks, though, I Lifebloomx3, keep a Rejuv on the tank. Nourish spam, and then if they drop low on health I spam Healing Touch and swiftmend. That’s seriously it, with maybe a regrowth and stuff thrown in.

Raid? Omg I have NO IDEA. I can only assume I use a priority system, which I actually think I do. Maybe.

I still don’t know. I’ll think about it.

(And then we went and beat up Al’akir)

If you have never done the Al’akir fight before, and you hear your raid leader say “okay, I need a ranged dps and a healer to volunteer for Rohash”, do not happily move to where he indicated volunteers should go. Especially don’t do it if you notice the other healers backing away from that location.

Conclave of the Four Winds!

I was on Rohash with a warlock. Yes, there were only the two of us. The warlock was tanking Rohash, and I was healing and tossing random wraths at Rohash when I had the time.

We both failed on wind blast a few times, but then I had a GREAT IDEA. This was to run into Rohash when he was about to cast it, and then just stay directly behind him the entire time, with much less movement needed to stay the heck out of it.

…You know, I’m not certain what everyone else was doing…

I heard something about switching targets, blah blah “oh noes switch NOW!” “ULTIMATE COMING!” and things like that. I just, uhm, avoided tornados and windblast and kept the ‘lock and myself alive. Eventually we finished beating him up after we failed a few times and the other groups failed a few times.

This nasty little &@$^@*# son of a misbegotten wind camel and a particularly nasty-tempered banana pudding was VERY annoying. Mainly because on wipe #1, we were in phase 1 and everyone failed to squall line. The next 8 or so wipes were on phase 3 with him at anywhere from 100k-800 health. Yes, really 800 health. That was the very last wipe of the night, after that everyone got so annoyed that he died rather than face our wrath.

Phase one:

I was assigned to one group of 3-4 people, depending on how it had been shifted around, and this did not include a tank.  I kept them alive, and watched for squall lines, which are lines of tornados with a gap in them. You need to stand in this gap. We also all ran in on Wind Blast, where Al’akir blasts everyone away from him. Sometimes these coincided with squall lines, at which point I wondered if Al’akir had broken his programming and was being sadistic.

Phase 2:

Not that much different from a healing perspective. There’s now Acid Rain, which is consistent raid-wide damage. Since the nerf, I didn’t even notice it was there. Everything else is the same for healers, but for dps there’s now adds that need to die because they apply a stacking debuff to Al’akir. Once the dps have beat up on him enough..

Phase 3:

He gives you the ability to fly and breaks the platform. (Why is he giving us the ability to fly? What the heck, does he WANT to die?) At this point you’re in a race against time. We popped hero here as soon as everyone was gathered at the bottom of Al’akir, right above the Lightning Clouds that he spawns at the very bottom. We moved up every time he spawned more of those, and dpsed him like mad while the healers tried to keep everyone alive. We were definitely sloppy on this phase, as not everyone would be in my range the entire time, and we were supposed to stay grouped up. Actually, the Lightning Rod,(or whatever) targets were not supposed to be in my range, but besides them. The time we killed him, I turned into a tree and did mad wrath spam once we reached the top while tossing lifeblooms around.  He died after tree form wore off.

I realize this is all horribly behind the times, and I’m sorry. But it’s so much fun!

…. Anyways.

Tonight <It Was Epic> went in and stabbed Chimmy to death on one try. After one healer, one tank, and a few dps died. Mweheehee. I had so much fun tree-wrathing in the second phase

Two-shotted Atramedes, moved on to Nef. The night is yet young, so I believe we can do it.

But first, Chimy as I did it.

*heal people up frantically to more than 10% while making sure they have their warlock cookies and are using them*

*tranq on first bot failure*

*see that a healer died*

*frantically take over the tank healing they were doing also along with other healer*

*use warlock cookie to not have to heal self during slime*

*go back to frantically healing*

*innv and pop trink as it’s come off cd*

*frantic healing*

*more frantic hea— wait, phase two, tree form and wrath spam!*

*dead dragon*

And then, Atramedes!

He was… fun? We stacked up range and melee, moved pretty much in synch to avoid things, and gracefully brought the flames that tracked on people around so that only one person got hit. Then the air phase wiped us.

…Then we came back in, did the same thing, and assigned ONE PERSON to the gongs. One person died (sorry Celynn) and the rest of us lived and killed him. Two dead dragons, no loot for either druid in the raid.

Onto Nefarian! I’ll save you the suspense, he died.

After 3 tries, but he died! One wipe on phase one, one wipe on phase two, and one wipe on phase three. The next time it was a dead Neffy.

I was assigned to healing the neffy tank, which was fun, although I did cheat and sneak in heals on the raid. And yet, I ended with a good 30% mana, using my innv and trink every time it was up, and a priest hymn… I should be casting more. Had to take over some raid heals in phase three when the raid healer died. Overall, it was very smooth when we did get him down. I had fun pretending to be a dps killing the mob on my pillar. Went on to (hopefully, I need to wait for him to get back on) some RP with a friend.

Oh, and apparently I sound like the girl on TankSpot who does their videos. Who knew?

Good news, Everyone!

I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist the Prof.Putricide quote…

….So, this happened when I wasn’t blogging.

Before the 20% nerf, I went in and healed Cho’gall to 32% with a very nice guild, and they mentioned they would be interested in bringing me into that guild. And I’ve thought about it, and then tonight/last night(July8th)

Sadly after the nerf….

I went in with the same people. Well, they also had PuGs like the last time. I was told that, apparently, I am a very good healer. *shrug*, sure. (there was no squeeing involved when they invited me back in or when I was told that. At all. Vicious lies, all of it.)

We beat up Cho’gall in one try, and moved on to BWD, because the night hadn’t even started yet and who wanted to quit then?!

We beat up Magmaw, and Omnomnomnitron, and Maloriak. And then wiped once twice three times on Chimy. We weren’t spreading back out quickly enough after the ‘bot went online. We’ll probably get it tonight then, and I can start posting what I think of all the fights.

What you do not do

As a healer, you don’t “lol” when someone suggests you need to drink mana drinks.

You don’t say you don’t need them, “lol”

Especially not at level 22 with no other way to regen mana. You don’t waste other people’s time by just standing there and going “lol”

…Or at least you shouldn’t.

…..Especially when your tank is going “No, really. Go, do it.” and “Look there’s milk in that chest”, and then you take it and still.. don’t drink it.

/drop group after wipe due to healer puling boss after saying “my mana is fine, lol”

/ignore healer

/go on happy, paladin-ing way

(It’s a draenei now, and it’s level 21)

(A new paladin, not a race change)

Also, Kyphaz and  Sinrya are very nice low-level pugs. Go hug them if you see them.
